Confirmation

When we baptize infants, we promise to raise them and teach them about Jesus so that when they are old enough they can decide if they want to follow him.  We provide this opportunity every few years.    For youth of members, we approach students who are 8th grade or above, but anyone might want to step through the general process of Confirmation.

We sometimes begin with a retreat – get away, break the routine, and practice asking questions and listening for responses from our experiences, from a spiritual practice, and from other members of the community.

Offsite activities may require an Activity Participation Agreement.

In confirmation class, we connect with 4 Building Blocks of Discipleship:

  • Prayer and Worship
  • Community
  • Service
  • Study

With options for exploration and creative expression in each building block, each participant has a unique experience, tailored to each person’s gifts and open to the nudge of the Holy Spirit.  Any youth or adult may join any part of this journey and track their own unique Confirmation Experience using our Checklist:

Young people who decide to confirm their faith (there is never any pressure to do so):

  • Meet with Session to share a unique personal statement of faith.
  • Are baptized if not baptized already
  • Become a full member of the community (including being able to vote, serve as officers, and make other community decisions.)
  • Are received by the congregation in a worship service.

Be… in Christ …Loved. …of Use.
